My Top Tips to beat the Holiday FAT

Posted by Jessica Kiernan on 20th Oct 2014

Tis the season yet again. That means a lot of time in the car driving from store to store and quick stops for food. I don’t want you to get off track with your nutrition plan and fitness regimen. That is why I want to give you these quick tips for Holiday Shopping check them out:

Fierce Tip #1.) Eat before you leave the house. Have your healthy meal before you leave so you won’t crave anything when you arrive and eat or drink those extra calories.

Fierce Tip 2.) Prep like a pro before you go. "Pack items in your purse like whole wheat crackers, nuts, and fruit. Guys bring along some almonds you put in your jacket. Or grab some trail mix or a light snack with fiber, protein, and carbs to boost your energy and refuel when needed.

Fierce Tip #3.) Remember to take a break from shopping and relax. This will give time to refresh with some water and not leave you craving sugary drinks or food. We think we are hungry when actually we are usually just dehydrated. Water replenishes you, invigorates your body, wakes you up and keeps you fuller longer! Bring some with you as you shop.

Fierce Tip #4.) When you do stop for something to eat, choose wisely. You should be feeling good at this point if you have done the first 2 steps. Do not eat anything fried, cheesy, or has a creamy dip- This will weigh down on you and bloat you. Leaving you tired and feeling off track. Plus you will add those unwanted calories.

Holiday Party Time Tips:

When you are attending a party, the rules above should still apply. Pack some healthy snacks and eat when needed. Opt for the fresh veggies not the fried foods and thick, heavy dips, and always eat before you venture out. When at a cocktail party, girls, wear a tighter dress, and guys wear a slimmer suit or outfit. This will keep you from being able to over-stuff yourself on the trays of bad food and keep you from temptation. I also suggest taking a few laps around the room when you feel the urge to snack on the bad stuff like the tray of cookies! This will ensure to take your mind off it until that craving goes away.

When it comes to the cocktails, monitor yourself. Yes you may have fun but steer clear of anything loaded with sugar! This means the cosmopolitan martini and the bay breeze etc..Hidden sugars galore! Guys try to drink light beer. And opt for clear drinks such as vodka & club soda with a small splash of a juice or lemon or lime or a wine spritzer. The recommended alcohol intake for a woman is one drink a day. Just keep that in mind and also drink some water in-between 1 or 2 drinks.

And lastly do not not to get caught up in the larger goals that are unrealistic for you. The people who stick to their goals and achieve them are the people who are making realistic ones. Don’t fret about your belly bloat or the 5 lbs you may add over the holidays therefore setting a resolution that is doomed to fail such as losing 20 pounds in a month. Start small and start with written goals and what you are going to do each day to better yourself and your health and you will have great success! I promise you that!

Happy Holidays,

Love & Health,
